AI for Ocean and Coastal Territories Forum
From Artificial Intelligence to Coastal Resilience
EDHEC Climate Institute will participate in the AI for Ocean and Coastal Territories Forum, organised by Waves of Change, and taking place on June 1 and 2 at the Bellevue Congress Centre in Biarritz.
The forum brings together public authorities, researchers, financial institutions, technology providers and local stakeholders to examine how artificial intelligence and data-driven tools can support the sustainable management of marine and coastal environments. Through plenary discussions, thematic workshops and operational demonstrations, the event explores emerging approaches to adaptation, territorial resilience and environmental governance across coastal regions.
As climate-related pressures on coastal ecosystems continue to intensify, including sea-level rise, biodiversity degradation and increasing physical risks, coastal territories are facing growing challenges linked to infrastructure resilience, water management and long-term financing needs. In this context, the use of climate data, predictive analytics and decision-support tools is becoming increasingly important for public and private actors involved in territorial planning and risk management.
The 2026 edition of the forum will focus on practical applications of artificial intelligence for ocean conservation, coastal adaptation and sustainable territorial development, while fostering dialogue between scientific, institutional, industrial and financial communities.
EDHEC Climate Institute and Scientific Climate Ratings (an EDHEC Venture) will contribute to the programme through the following sessions:
Workshop Session: Water Management and Coastal Cities
On 1 June, during the thematic workshop sessions, Camille Angue, Director of EDHEC Climate Institute, will participate in the discussion “Water Management in Coastal Cities: the Coastguard Cities Project.”
The session will examine how coastal cities can strengthen resilience to increasing environmental pressures through improved water management, climate adaptation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Bringing together stakeholders from research, insurance, engineering and environmental sciences, the discussion will address operational approaches to managing coastal risks and supporting sustainable urban resilience strategies.
Speakers include:
- Damien Saint, Departmental Tourism Agency of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques
- Camille Angue, CEO, EDHEC Climate Institute
- Clémentine Fischer, Sustainability Engagement Lead, AXA
- Julia d’Astorg, Director of Science & Nature, AXA
- Sourav Kumar Biswas, Director of Sponge Collaborative
- Caroline Lapeyre, CEO, Floodframe
Roundtable: Financing Coastal Resilience
On 1 June, from 14:15 to 14:35, EDHEC Climate Institute and Scientific Climate Ratings will participate in the roundtable “Financing Coastal Resilience,” alongside representatives from Crédit Mutuel Arkéa, Citizen Capital and other financial institutions.
The discussion will explore how climate data, risk analytics and investment frameworks can contribute to the financing of adaptation and resilience initiatives in coastal territories. Particular attention will be given to the role of financial institutions and forward-looking climate assessments in supporting long-term territorial resilience and environmental transition strategies.
Speakers include:
- Camille Angue, Director, EDHEC Climate Institute
- Anthony Schrapffer, Chief Scientific Advisor, Scientific Climate Ratings
- Pierre-Emmanuel Noël, Head of Unit, European Investment Bank
- Jonathan Piquet, Investment Director, Citizen Capital
- Andreas Galatoulas, Data and AI Lead, Global Green Growth Institute (CDRI)
The discussion will be moderated by Sarah Kieling, Waves of Change.
Roundtable: Financing Coastal Resilience through Science and Data
On 2 June, from 14:00 to 14:25, Camille Angué, Director of EDHEC Climate Institute, will moderate the roundtable “Financing Coastal Resilience through Science and Data.”
The session will examine how scientific expertise, environmental data and financial actors can support investment and decision-making processes related to coastal adaptation and resilience. Discussions will address the role of climate intelligence, territorial knowledge and data-driven methodologies in supporting sustainable financing approaches for coastal regions.
Speakers include:
- Magdalena Andrea Stănescu, Head of Unit, DG MARE, European Commission
- Sophie Coulon-Rennou, Head of External Growth and Partnerships Strategy, Crédit Mutuel Arkéa
